Overview
Exodus 9 continues the account of the ten plagues, detailing the fifth, sixth, and seventh plagues that God brings upon Egypt. The chapter begins with the plague of livestock disease, which devastates the Egyptian cattle while sparing the Israelites' animals, further showcasing God’s ability to distinguish His people. Despite this clear sign, Pharaoh’s heart remains hardened.
The sixth plague follows, bringing painful boils upon the Egyptians, affecting both people and animals. Even the magicians of Pharaoh suffer and can no longer stand before Moses, but Pharaoh remains unmoved.
The chapter culminates with the seventh plague – a devastating hailstorm that destroys crops and livestock in the fields. This time, Pharaoh admits his sin and acknowledges God's righteousness, but once the storm ceases, he reverts to his stubborn stance, refusing to let the Israelites go. These plagues not only demonstrate God’s power but also reveal the deepening of Pharaoh’s resistance, setting the stage for the final confrontations to come.
