Overview
Exodus 37 continues with the construction of the Tabernacle, focusing on the creation of its key furnishings by Bezalel, a master craftsman:
The Ark of the Covenant: The chapter begins with Bezalel making the Ark of acacia wood and overlaying it with pure gold, inside and out. He also crafts the gold molding around it and the rings and poles used for carrying the Ark.
The Table for the Bread of Presence: Bezalel constructs the table of acacia wood, overlays it with gold, and makes its accessories, including dishes, bowls, jars, and pitchers for pouring drink offerings.
The Golden Lampstand (Menorah): The lampstand is made of pure gold, hammered out to its shape with its base, shaft, flower-like cups, buds, and blossoms. This detailed work reflects the intricate design as commanded by God.
The Altar of Incense: The altar is made of acacia wood and overlaid with pure gold, along with its horns, molding, and rings. This altar is to be placed in front of the veil that shields the Ark of the Covenant.
Exodus 37 not only highlights the exceptional skill and craftsmanship involved in creating these sacred items but also their spiritual significance. Each piece plays a crucial role in the Tabernacle, symbolizing different aspects of God’s relationship with the Israelites – from the Ark representing His throne and presence, to the Lampstand symbolizing His guidance and light.
