Overview

Psalm 93 is a brief yet powerful hymn that celebrates the sovereignty and majesty of God. It affirms that the Lord reigns, robed in majesty and armed with strength, indicating an eternal and unchangeable rule. The psalm places God's authority over both time ("from all eternity") and natural forces, symbolized by the tumultuous seas. Despite the chaos and turbulence that the waters represent, the Lord on high is mightier. This psalm stands as a testament to divine kingship, providing assurance that God's statutes are trustworthy and His holiness endures. With its stress on the eternal nature of God's reign, Psalm 93 serves as a source of comfort and a call to worship, acknowledging that no earthly force can undermine the ultimate authority of the Divine.

Psalm 93

1  The LORD reigneth, he is clothed with majesty; the LORD is clothed with strength, wherewith he hath girded himself: the world also is stablished, that it cannot be moved.

2  Thy throne is established of old: thou art from everlasting.

3  The floods have lifted up, O LORD, the floods have lifted up their voice; the floods lift up their waves.

4  The LORD on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, yea, than the mighty waves of the sea.

5  Thy testimonies are very sure: holiness becometh thine house, O LORD, for ever.
