In God's Presence Lies Our True Path: Insights from Exodus 33
Exodus 33:14-15 And he said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest. And he said unto him, If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence.
There is a phrase in the Bible that always brings a reverence or awe to me; it is the phrase “the presence of the Lord.” This phrase is always connected to the doctrine and practice of worship and praise. If there is one thing that we need in our lives, it is the presence of the Lord. The presence of the Lord is the place that we so often neglect. We like to get somewhat around the outside corridors of His presence, but we lack in getting in His presence. In these verses God is promising Moses that He will go with Moses, and that His presence will be present. What a great peace to know that where God directs, His presence follows. Pastors or laymen, people may not always follow you in the direction that God directs, but rest assured that His presence will! I like the cry of Moses when he declares that if God’s presence doesn’t go, then he doesn’t want to go either. We should live our daily life like this: to wake up and say, I want your presence in my life, and if your presence isn’t going to go, then I don’t want to go either. How long has it been since you felt His presence? Did He lead you to where you are today? If so, then His presence is there with you. What a comfort for the child of God who follows the Lord’s direction.
