From Loss to Blessing: Isaac's Journey at Lahairoi
Gen. 25:11 And it came to pass after the death of Abraham, that God blessed his son Isaac; and Isaac dwelt by the well Lahairoi.
God doesn’t like sad endings! No doubt the day that Abraham died was a sad day for his family, but isn’t it interesting to see how that God was determined to make sure that Abraham’s death was not the end of the story, but rather, just the beginning.
It wasn’t until after the death of Abraham that we are told that God blessed his son Isaac. Sometimes it’s not until after a death has occurred in our lives that we are then positioned to be able to receive our blessing from the Lord. Please do not limit this to just the loss of a loved one, but really the loss of anything you thought you could not do without. God often waits until we are empty-handed before He fills our cup to overflowing! He cannot bless us until there is room for the blessing.
It could be that the reason God has not blessed you like you have been praying, is because you have not emptied yourself before His presence as of yet. That which is full needs not to be filled, but rather that which is empty. Many times we ask God to fill us up with all of His richest blessings, and yet we have not made room for Him in the inn. We mistakenly think that we can easily obtain and maintain our inheritance without leaving room in our lives to stay connected to our Heavenly Father in a meaningful relationship.
Then, after we have left the Father’s house with the stuff He gave us, we find ourselves very soon empty-handed, learning only then that what is more important than our Father’s provisions is our Father’s presence! So, in essence, we must learn to die to self, in order that we might be truly blessed and highly favored by God!
Notice quickly the place of Isaac’s blessing; our text says that Isaac dwelt by the well Lahairoi, which means the “well of the Living One seeing me.” In other words, Isaac learned early on that if he wanted to be sustained by God’s provisions, then he must learn to live in God’s presence. With that in mind, you just need to know that God’s well is full of supply, and it can be found at the foot of the cross! It is through the curse of sin placed upon our Lord at Calvary that we can be blessed with a secure relationship with God! Turn to Christ today, and be blessed!
