Are You Present in God’s Army? A Rallying Cry for True Soldiers

Num. 1:3 From twenty years old and upward, all that are able to go forth to war in Israel: thou and Aaron shall number them by their armies.

At the risk of sounding a bit pessimistic, I can’t help but wonder, if there were a soldier count in the Kingdom of God today, how much of a shortage would we have on our hands? I do not deny the fact that God always has a man; however, what I do doubt is that great numbers of men have God. In Ezekiel 22:30-31, God said, “And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none. Therefore have I poured out mine indignation upon them; I have consumed them with the fire of my wrath: their own way have I recompensed upon their heads, saith the Lord GOD.”

Question: Would God have any better results today, for this generation? This should trouble every preacher to his core. At the time of God’s searching, there was not a lack of priests, but there was a lack of genuine men of God. We must learn the difference between being a leader by position only, or being a leader in person. Anyone can assume a title; but few possess the touch of God. You may call yourself a soldier, but ARE you a soldier?

Many Christians say they are in God’s army, but few SHOW that they are. God is looking and searching for someone…anyone…who will stand in the gap and make up the hedge for this crooked and perverse generation, but sadly, I’m afraid that too many have concluded that the price for such a task is too high to pay. Is our appetite for comfort greater than our appetite for a mighty move of God in the land?

God’s doing a soldier count; will you be present and accounted for? And before you say yes, understand that God counts a soldier not by the words that he speaks, but by the actions of his feet. Paul told Timothy to endure afflictions, which meant to undergo hardship and suffer trouble without breaking or yielding to force or pressure.

If God were to say to you even as Isaiah heard Him say, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?”, would you also respond, “Here am I; send me.”? Or, would you shirk your responsibility as a soldier to seize the opportunity to fight for your Lord? What this world needs are some soldiers of the cross who will stand in the gap and make up the hedge between this generation and a holy God, so that He might send the latter rain of revival before His wrath is unleashed on this earth.

What about you? Are you present and accounted for? What would it take for you to surrender?
