Paving the Way for Future Generations in Faith
1 Chronicles 22:5
And David said, Solomon my son is young and tender, and the house that is to be builded for the LORD must be exceeding magnifical, of fame and of glory throughout all countries: I will therefore now make preparation for it. So David prepared abundantly before his death.
King David was not to be the one to actually build the house of the Lord; however, that didn’t stop him from laying the groundwork which enabled his son Solomon to build it after his death. I see here the passion of a father for his God being passed down as a legacy of faith to his son. What I love about this verse is the fact that in his latter days, King David focused primarily on aiding and assisting the project to make it ready for his son to take over. In other words, he was pouring into his son’s future. He was making the absolute best investment he could be making at this season in his life. He was procuring the provisions for prosperity in the near future construction of the new temple for The Lord.
Now, can you imagine just how different our society would be if every parent dedicated themselves to pouring all of their strength, vision, and resources into their children just so that they could have a place of worship unparalleled to any other place on the planet? Parents, where are you in this process for your children? You may not feel like you can get as involved in all of the intricate details of your church’s ministry, but neither could King David. Just look at the text; King David wished he could have been right up in the middle of the actual building project itself, but since he couldn’t do that…he did the next best thing possible! He organized, campaigned, & gathered all the necessary talent, treasures, & materials needed for the task.
The question each of us as parents should be asking ourselves is this; are we doing all we CAN do to ensure that our children have a place of worship they can learn, grow, and flourish spiritually as they commit themselves to the cause of Christ? There may be a lot of things I can no longer do myself, and there may be a lot of places I cannot personally go, but what about my children? Just because I can’t do this or that, doesn’t mean I shouldn’t do all I can, as well as fan the flames in the hearts of my children, to carry on the work of The Lord to greater heights and a further reach than I ever dreamed possible! Now, go leave a legacy!
