Overview
Exodus 2 introduces Moses, a pivotal figure in the Israelite history. Born to a Hebrew family and hidden for three months due to Pharaoh’s decree to kill Hebrew infants, Moses is set adrift in the Nile in a basket by his mother. He is found and adopted by Pharaoh's daughter, growing up in the Egyptian palace. As an adult, Moses kills an Egyptian mistreating a Hebrew and flees to Midian to escape Pharaoh’s wrath. There, he marries Zipporah, the daughter of the priest of Midian, and starts a new life. Meanwhile, the chapter notes the worsening plight of the Israelites in Egypt and God's acknowledgment of their suffering, indicating the beginning of His intervention. This chapter sets the groundwork for Moses' future role as the leader who will bring the Israelites out of Egypt.
