Overview
Matthew 14 narrates pivotal events and miracles in Jesus' ministry. The chapter begins with the tragic beheading of John the Baptist at the request of Herodias's daughter. Jesus, hearing the news, retreats to a solitary place but is followed by multitudes. Filled with compassion, He heals the sick and performs the remarkable miracle of feeding five thousand men, plus women and children, with just five loaves and two fish. Later, Jesus walks on the Sea of Galilee and invites Peter to come to Him on the water. Peter's faith falters after initially walking on water, and he begins to sink, but Jesus rescues him, saying, "O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?" The chapter ends with Jesus reaching Gennesaret, where He continues healing all who come to Him.
