Week 3, Day 19:  The Spirit’s Fruit of Meekness and Gift of Prophecy

  • Genesis 40:8  And they said unto him, We have dreamed a dream, and there is no interpreter of it. And Joseph said unto them, Do not interpretations belong to God? tell me them, I pray you.

  • Insight: Genesis 40:8 reveals Joseph’s reliance on God for the interpretation of dreams. His response, “Do not interpretations belong to God?” demonstrates humility and dependence on divine revelation. The Holy Spirit cultivates the Fruit of meekness (Galatians 5:23, KJV)—“love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance”—empowering us to remain humble as we exercise spiritual gifts.

The Gift of Prophecy aligns closely with this passage. Prophecy, as described in 1 Corinthians 12:10—“To another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits”—is a Spirit-given ability to proclaim God’s revelation for edification, exhortation, and comfort (1 Corinthians 14:3 “But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort.”). Like Joseph, those operating in this gift must rely on God for insight, ensuring that His truth is communicated accurately and with humility. When paired with meekness, the prophetic gift becomes a powerful testimony of God’s grace and sovereignty.

  • Prayer: Thank God for the Holy Spirit, who produces meekness in your heart and grants the Gift of Prophecy at His discretion to proclaim His truth with precision and clarity. Praise Him for His faithfulness to provide wisdom and understanding for His purposes. Pray for the Spirit to cultivate humility in your life, to grant you boldness and clarity to share His Word, and to empower you to reflect His glory in all you do.  Pray for the gift of prophecy by which to encourage the body of Christ (See 1 Cor. 14:1).

Close with this prayer from Acts 4:29-30:
"And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word, by stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus." Ask the Spirit to  fill you with meekness and a prophetic boldness as you rely on Him to guide and empower you to edify (build up), exhort (inspire to action), and comfort others!
